ACTIVITIES AND INTERESTS
COASTAL ENVIRONMENTS
I have fed my keen interest in Australian coastal wildlife and marine life as a member of the Australian Coastal Society (ACS). I was one a a select few chosen to participate in the Coast to Coast Edge Factor 2012 Conference. I also played a role in promoting an understanding of the importance or our coastal ecosystems for sequestering carbon through a project called Coastal Carbon.
MARINE BIOLOGY
Growing up in Papua New Guinea, Western Samoa and along various stretches of the Australian coastline, I have always loved the ocean and had a burning curiosity for marine creatures, great and small. With a father in the industry, my thirst for marine related knowledge was quenched from a very young age. I am now pursuing this passion through a marine biology major in my Bachelor of Science degree.
CLIMATE SHANGE AWARENESS
I am a member of the Australian Youth Climate Coalition (AYCC) and an active supporter of their movement. I independently attended the Power Shift Summit in Brisbane to expand my knowledge about climate change and renewable energy.
PLANNING
I have a keen interest in increasing my knowledge of the planning profession in Australia through my ongoing involvement with the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA).
PHOTOGRAPHY
I have a passion for photography and enjoy combining this with my passion for the environment through nature photography. Additionally, I have volunteered my services at events and functions to hone my skills.
FILMMAKING
I am a budding filmmaker and I have fuelled my eagerness to improve by taking on the role of lead videographer with Back to Basics Adventures, and through various filmmaking projects, such as Save Ben's Butt, an initiative to document and fundraise for Ben, a PNG paraplegic with no access to a wheelchair or the necessary health facilities.
SCUBA DIVING
I am a keen scuba diver and enjoy mixing this passion with my love for underwater photography, wildlife, nature and marine biology. I am a PADI Divemaster with experience guidi in Komodo National Park, Indonesia, famous for its challenging dive sites, pumping currents and world class diving.
FITNESS ENTHUSIAST
I have a passion for exercise and enjoy the challenges that it can bring. Although I am not naturally skilled, I thrive on achieving my best in the personal fitness goals I set myself, which have included the Coffs Harbour Half Marathon 2011, the Gold Coast Airport Half Marathon 2012 and Tough Mudder 2013. At each of these events I took the opportunity to raise funds for my charity of choice - World Vision.
